1. Day 43 - 12th February 2011

Today was my shoot with Looby Loo’s - one of my all-time favourite shoots =)

    See the pictures here:

  2. Day 42 - 11th February 2011

    Ice cream sandwich! Yay!

  3. Day 41 - 10th February 2011

Sorry, it’s another Hipstamatic photo. Actually I’m done feeling guilty about these - you know I still have to find something vaguely interesting for these…

Anyway, this is a lantern I found lying around…

  4. Day 40 - 9th February 2011

More fun with the wide-angle lens today, this time in the Castle and High Street Arcades.

This is a picture of The Wardrobe which has been closed for some time. It’s a great shame as the shop was open for some 15 years before it shut. It’s a gorgeous space, lovely curves and beautiful windows. I really hope someone else can find a use for it soon.

See more wide-angle pictures on the Cardiff Arcades Project.

  5. Day 39 - 8th February 2011

Today I wanted to find some interesting shapes in the flat to photograph, I’ve got quite a lot of cake stands (as you do) and I liked the circular shapes.

Can’t say I’m overly amazed with today’s picture, although I do love the bright colours. I’m honest I was very tired today. Excuses I know, but it’s hard work!

  6. Day 38 - 7th February 2011

I took delivery of a 10-20mm ultra wide angle lens today. I’ve got it on loan for a couple of weeks. I couldn’t wait to take some pictures with it. Yet again this is a picture from the Arcades Project, but I really don’t care, because it’s awesome.

See more super-cool, super-wide angle shots from the Morgan Arcade.

  7. Day 37 - 6th February 2011

I didn’t take too many photos today, I had a quick spin around the Castle Arcade to have a quick look at which shops I definitely wanted to include in my hit list, and Claire Grove buttons is a definite, definite must.

Not sure what I love about buttons so much, but a whole shop dedicated to them, what’s not to love?

You can see more buttons pics on the Cardiff Arcades Project site.

  8. Day 36 - 5th February 2011

Another Arcades project portrait, this time one from the lovely students putting on the Eccentricities and Obsessions show. I won’t bore anyone who’s not interested in details here, suffice to say, if you are please visit the post about it on the Cardiff Arcades Project website.

  9. Day 35 - 4th February 2011

Ah, there’s nothing like Cardiff on Six Nations match day.

This was the opening match, and it was the big one, England vs Wales. Hoardes of fans descended upon the capital, and I was stuck in the middle of it.

I’d love to do more street photography, but I’m pretty scared of it. Scared someone will take offence, scared someone will get angry, scared someone will attack me.

Probably none of those things will happen and I should just not care. But I do, for now at least.

I still managed to capture this charming snap of two England fans chomping on some Gregg’s produce, which was open late for the kick-off.

  10. Day 34 - February 3rd 2011

This is another example of not having forethought to take a special photo today. I’m afraid now that I’ve got a more ambitious project (www.cardiffarcadesproject.com) this will probably happen a lot more often… so for that I can only apologise.

I will try my hardest to keep up the 365 though, even if I do resort to a lot more iPhone pics on days when I need a rest from holding up a DSLR… it takes its toll on your neck and wrists you know.

Anyway back to this picture - this is in my kitchen, obviously, and it’s a olive oil bottle I bought from a local market for pound, one of my favourite kitchenalia finds of all time, and a bargain to boot - I’ve seen things just like it in John Lewis et al for at least 15 times the price…

Anyway, I converted it to high contrast black and white because I feel like it has more impact that way, what do you think?

  11. Day 33 - February 2nd 2011

Today was my first proper shoot with the ever so lovely Michelle Davis from Rules of Play and Garlands Eatery in the Castle and Duke Street Arcades, respectively.

I’ve already written a long post about this, so if you want to find out more - you can click here.

  12. Top 5 photos from January 2011

I thought it might be a nice idea to include a round-up of my favourite photos from the previous month at the start of every new one. If for no other reason than it gives me chance to reflect on the past 30 days. So here’s the first one, my top 5 favourite photos of January 2011.

Click on any of the pictures to read more info on it.

    Day 3 - 3rd January 2011

I love this one because it was the first picture that I took for this project that I really loved. It was my favourite for a while, and I loved the grain and that it was black and white. I still do - probably because I don’t do much mono stuff.

    Day 12 - 12th January 2011

This is one of my favourites because of the beautiful colours and simplicity of the idea. I can look at it and it instantly makes me smile because of that gorgeous blue and the eye-popping greens.

    Day 14 - 14th January 2011

This was my first real portrait shoot and I loved, loved, loved it. Me and Jen had so much fun shooting in my little corridor studio, and there was some great shots from the evening. This is the photo that really made me want to start taking more portraits this year.

    Day 21 - 21st January 2011

I love this because it’s almost black and white, but it isn’t. I’d love to shoot more pictures in colour that look like they’re mono, and also, I think chandeliers are great too.

    Day 25 - 25th January 2011

Well, what can I say about this rather unremarkable photo, other than it’s where everything with my Arcades project kicked off and has landed me in the trouble of committing to a definite project ;-) It’s been a crazy week and I struggle to believe it’s taken off so well in such a short space of time. I’m sure you can imagine, there’s going to be a lot of Arcade pictures this 365, but I’ll try not to bombard you with them!

  13. Day 32 - 1st February 2011

Well, I’m sorry to admit I’ve been a bit lazy on this one. Really sorry.

I had a cracking time at Cardiff Blogs tonight, and even though I probably could (or should) have taken some photos there I was just trying to relax and be me, not Amy the photograper person getting in everyone’s face. Next time though, I’ll definitely get it out (that’s what she said - sorry).

But, I’m not a completely lazy person, I looked around for something good to take a photo of in the house. I thought as it was the first of the month and I was thinking about all the photos I’d taken previously, I’d do a different spin on one of my favourites - so here it is, a shot of the treacle and golden syrup tins from my cupboard - and yes, it’s another Hipstamatic pic - get over it! :D

  14. Wow, I can’t believe we’re already at the end of the month.

I’m glad I started this 365 project up again, even if, on days like today I kinda wish I didn’t have to do it.

I decided to have a quick re-wander round the Morgan Arcade this evening, it’s sless than a week since I went there and my arcades project popped into my mind so I thought it might be a good time to have a quick revisit.

This was taken right at the very entrance to the arcade. The sign glared out me from within and I couldn’t resist taking a photo of it. I think I can also add it to my almost black and white collection as this is another one that’s shot in colour.

If I get time tomorrow I will do a “favourite photos of January” post… but if not, you can decide for yourself :D

Also, huge thanks to Ed Walker over at Media Wales today for featuring my Arcades Project on Your Cardiff. Head over to my Arcades Blog for my info.

  15. Day 30 - 30th January 2011

Taking portraits of people up trees is awesome. Not only do you get great backgrounds like this… check out that bokeh… (well, when the weather co-operates) but you can shoot from a number of different perspectives.

Today me, Lottie and Leni went to Bute Park to take a number of portraits that included throwing leaves around, climbing up trees and staring at ducks.

I will edit them all at some point this week… hopefully… and post more of them. For now, enjoy this moment when Lottie threw leaves at Leni - I know she did. :)
